Room with a view

Nestled between the Stellenbosch Mountains and surrounded by the lush green vines of the wine estates lies the intimate WedgeView Country House and Spa. I had the privilege of being able to stay for 2 nights as a gift from my son for Mother’s Day. To get to the hotel one has to drive along a dusty road between the wine estates vineyards. The leaves on the vines were turning golden brown and a deep red as autumn is in the air. On arrival one is greeted by the friendly staff and given a lovely welcome drink when you book in at reception, then you are escorted to your rooms. The rooms are plush and in warm tones of creams and browns. The bathrooms are sparkling and the large bathtub was calling for me to come and sink into its depths and to forget about all my woes.

I had a room with a view……. Overlooking the mountains in the distance and seeing the 20170513_110906sea of vines in there different stages of autumn colours. I was in heaven……. That evening I gave into my desires and fell into that bathtub and soaked away my woes. I dived into the huge King size bed with its mountain of pillows and sighed….. My sleep was as peaceful, as the silence of the night took me into dreamland. Morning brought forth a spectacular sunrise as I watched from my balcony with a cup of steaming hot tea in hand.

Could this get any better, I wondered.

The breakfast area has an inside and outside area, I choose the outside for the obvious reason that it was sunny and peaceful with the sound of the small waterfall that was spilling into the pond next to the eating area. Breakfast consisted of a cold buffet filled with an inviting array of cold meats, decadent cheeses, fruits, croissants, homemade jams and then the usual yoghurts and cereals. The hot meals were just as divine ranging from the full breakfasts, to huge 3 eggs omelettes, to toasted delights and the like. I, of course, had to sample almost everything…… guess who had to detox later that week. The country house boasts of a full spa and a large swimming pool. The grounds are lush and the grass areas are dotted with relaxing chairs around the entertaining areas.

Lunch is light tasty meals and can be served in the garden. The Spa side boasts of a host of different treatments and I was fortunate enough to go for the full body massage….. Pure bliss! The staff are friendly and go out of their way to chat to you and cater to all your needs. Supper is not normally served as you have to book for it and if there is not enough guests they do not serve. One has no need for supper there as Stellenbosch has a host of amazing restaurants that caters for all types of cuisine. Stellenbosch is a hub of activity whether by day or by night and its enchantment lingers with you long after you have left.

I truly recommend this place for a getaway as it is quiet and luxurious and the staff always have a smile for you.
